Discipleship Program
“Jesus, undeterred, went right ahead and gave His charge: “God authorized and commanded me to commission you: Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you. I’ll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28: 18-20 The Message)
Discipleship is an optional second phase of the Colony of Mercy program. Men who believe God is leading them to stay the additional time (90 days) may apply for consideration. Disciples receive a small stipend, additional responsibility, and an opportunity to share with others the grace of God that they have experienced in their new life. This phase enables a man to become more deeply grounded in his faith in Jesus Christ and to model that growth by assisting others in the spirit of the great commission given by Christ in Matthew 28:18-20.
A disciple is a pupil and an adherent (a follower); hence they are spoken of as imitators of their teacher. It is this vision that the Chaplain of Discipleship has infused into the Discipleship program. It is structured in such a way as to facilitate the man’s growth as a pupil, follower and imitator of Jesus Christ as a male staff member comes alongside of him modeling for him and challenging and encouraging him to live like Jesus Christ.
