Frequently Asked Questions Q. How will I get paid? A. Basic salary starts at $125 a week plus room and board. Please email or call to inquire about supervisor salaries. Q. How much will I work? A. Summer staffers work about 40 hours a week. Staff are given one full day off during the week (usually Saturdays, and either Friday or Sunday for lifeguards), and will have some amount of free time each day. Q. Where do I live? A. All of the summer staff are required to live on grounds. The second floor of Victory Hall has been the “home” of the summer staff for the past several years. It is a dormitory-style building with hall bathrooms (1 guys’, 1 girls’). You will have one roommate and will share the hall bathroom. There is a lounge in between the guys’ hall and the girls’ hall. Q. What if I have a family vacation/youth camp/want time off during the summer? A. Put any dates that you would need off on your application, and if you are hired, you will be given those dates off. We prefer that staffers are present throughout the entire summer, and requesting excessive time off may affect our hiring decision. Working at America’s Keswick is a summer ministry, and you may have to sacrifice in order to fulfill your commitment. Also, any specific dates requested off after hiring cannot be guaranteed, regardless of how early notice is given (it all depends on how many other staff have requested the same time off and how “full” we are at any given time), though the earlier you request it, the better the chances are that we can accommodate you. Q. What does a typical day look like? A. The schedule of the day varies, depending on the department you work in. We do not have a set wake up time, but evening curfew (be in the dorm) is at 10:30pm, and we have a lights-out policy at 11:00pm. Q. What is it like to work at Keswick? A. This is a loaded question. Working at Keswick is, in short, a unique experience. It is not a vacation, nor is it all about having fun (though we tend to have plenty of fun in the process). Summer staff is a summer ministry…a summer job, and you will be expected to serve. You will likely be pushed spiritually, emotionally, and physically. But through that pushing, you will learn important life lessons and grow as an individual. You will have the chance to be personally mentored throughout the summer by an older, more experienced staffer, and will have ample opportunity to make new friends and grow as you serve the Lord in this life-changing ministry. Q. What are the rules like? A. A copy of the Summer Staff Manual from previous summers is available. Each year, revisions are made, so the uploaded copy is intended to give you an idea of what to expect. A newly revised copy of the manual will be mailed to those applicants that are hired. |
